SUV Rental in Sri Lanka

An SUV earns its keep in Sri Lanka on two kinds of road: the long climbs into the hill country, where the extra engine matters, and the estate and park tracks, where ground clearance does. For everything in between it is simply a more comfortable way to carry four adults and their luggage.

The SUVs listed here come from owners across the island, self-drive or with a driver, with the owner’s own rate and photographs on every listing.

Where an SUV makes the difference

The roads to Nuwara Eliya, Ella and the Knuckles range climb for hours at a time. The approach roads to tea bungalows and to some national park gates are unsealed and rutted. Both are noticeably easier in something with clearance and torque.

In Colombo an SUV is a liability rather than an asset. Parking is tight and the traffic does not reward size. If your trip is mostly city, take a car.

Four-wheel drive or not

Most of what visitors drive here is sealed road, where two-wheel drive is perfectly adequate. Genuine four-wheel drive is worth having only if you intend to be on estate tracks or rough park approaches in the wet.

If you want a safari, note that the jeeps inside the national parks are operated by licensed drivers. You do not take your rental into Yala.

No. Park game drives are run by licensed safari operators in their own jeeps.

Are SUVs available with a driver?

Yes, many are offered both ways. See our car rental with driver page.

How many does an SUV seat?

Usually five, with some seven-seat models. Each listing states its seating and luggage space.
